dc.description.abstract The field of computational-mechanism design (CMD), which applies economic principles to computer systems design is discussed. CMD has an important role to play in developing complex distributed systems comprising multiple ineracting agents. The latest subfield of distributed-computational-mechanism design (DMD) is an emerging field of interest as it is a better match with the computational multiagent systems (MAS) model. A distributed mechanism transfers the computational burden from a central node in the mechanism to the agents.
